RELAX AND CREATE - KNOCK OUT AND ALPHABET SUBSTITUTION CARD

This is a technique I haven’t done in a long looooong time! When Channin Pelletier ‘s lesson on Letter Substitution came up on Day 10 in OCC’s Spring Card Camp 2, I was reminded of it and because my Dad is an avid gardener (among his many other talents) and Father’s Day is coming, it seemed providential to remake this card for him! You’ll see me pause and shift gears slightly, right before die cutting.

You’ll also see me deal with a mishap. A discerning card maker would notice the blip, but my sweet Dad never does and always displays the cards I make for him on the mantel. (big sappy grin)

In the past I’ve done this card with white card stock, but I decided to go with kraft on this one—love the look of colored pencils on it!

That little radish from Brandi’s Plant Lady was so perfect for this! The alphabet die set* I used is out of stock at the moment, but here is one that is similar in size, Chunky Alphabet Dies by The Stamp Market , and another that would make for a slightly different take on the concept, Something Extra Alpha Dies, by The Stamp Market.

NEW EBE JULY 2019 RELEASE HOP

Ellen Hutson has a new release for the summer, with some super cute stamp sets by Brandi Kincaid and fun new dies! We’re hoppin’ to share it! My project features a fun window design with an aquatic theme, using Subbing In

Used one of the Waves Dies to create a mask and blend ink over to create my ocean on my base card—the sub was stamped and white embossed on sunny yellow card stock and then die cut out—windows were die cut separately from the sub and then I traced the windows from the sub onto the front of the card so I’d know where to put the dies to cut

After gluing the sub in place, I lightly traced the window openings again, so I’d know where to stamp Jelly inside the card—so cute to have her peeking through the window! Erased the pencil lines before I started coloring.

LADYBUG COLOR POP

I loved the “highlight” idea in these cards by Therese Calvird and it was one of the first things I wanted to try with the Mondo Gerbera Daisy when it arrived. I love the simplicity!

Although the flower is an open line design, I didn’t want to color it (the whole point of the design is to take a small aspect and highlight it with color) so to soften the starkness of the black and white a bit and add just a smidge of texture, I added a few fine spatters of black acrylic paint.

Then I cheated. •insert shocked eyeballs•

Therese uses a straight edge paper trimmer to cut out a panel in the center; I grabbed my Hero Arts Infinity Rectangle Dies. •sheepish grin• Mounted the outer “frame” to my base card, and then 3D mounted the center panel.

Sweet li’l ladybug was stamped onto a scrap of white card stock and colored in with pencil. After she was popped up on the card front, I gave her a nice coating of Glossy Accents, and Bob’s yer Uncle! •fist pump•

START WITH A SONG

I just love the watercolor look on this rainbow-esque washi tape.  The little cupped flower sequins remind me of blown glass . . . *swoon*

It didn't take much to pull this all together--just a little colored pencil shading on the stamped images!

 

I put a little puddle of Multi-Medium on scrap paper and grasped the sequins with my tweezers (super easy when they are cupped like these) and swiped them through the glue and plunked 'em onto the card.

Everyone needs a 5MQ like this in their card-makin' aresenal.

Side note:  5MQ stands for five minute (card-makin') quickie.
