If you love sea creatures and get as much a kick out of puns as I do, you will probably love working with Just Squidding! I have a variety of samples here that I hope will inspire you! It is a seriously fun set to play with!

I used a waves die in a number of these examples to DIY a stencil for ink-blending my ocean background—such an effective way to make subtle backgrounds!

I used Copic Markers to color in all but one of the examples shown here. Can you guess which one I actually used bonafide watercolors on, instead of Copic Markers?

I created a porthole effect on the above card, by die cutting the inner circle first with an Essentials Circles die, then ran it through again with one of the Essentials Stitching Dies so I could stitch embroidery floss around the entire edge for accent—in my head it was a cute idea, but I was thrilled when it turned out even cuter in real life!

White embossed my li’l octopus and have to say that bold colors really make her details stand out! And, those Clear Drops were just begging to be used—any time I’m doing a water scene, I immediately want to reach for them to embellish.

I still haven’t used all the puns available in this set—I need to get busy! Too many chuckles to be had!

Hope you’re staying healthy and safe and that many of you have been able to get vaccinated so you can once again visit and hug loved ones without worry!

Thank you for taking time out of your day to stop by!

P.S. It was the “Inkin’ of you” card . . . (grin)

YAY! It’s release day at ellenhutson.com ! ⬅︎ Check out all the lovelies—I’ve been a busy girl! •grin•

There’s so much to see and share—too much for one post, so I decided to focus on a few products today and share a video tutorial on a project I just fell in love with (more projects in the coming days, promise):

The rainfall or rain shaker card has been around for a long time, but I’ve never actually made one! And, there are several different ways to make one, of course. But, you know when you look at a product and wonder if you can do something with it that it wasn’t originally intended for? Yeah, that’s what happened here with the Never-Ending Fringe Die . . .

These are seriously too much fun! I definitely gotta get more beads—I just have those pretty silver-lined ones, but how fun would it be to have a variety of colors??? •wheels are spinning• Have you tried making one of these before? I already pre-cut a whole bunch of stubby fringe so I can bust out more of these babies! EEP!!!

Sooooo, what do you think of the latest release? Do you have a favorite?

Thanks for stopping by and hope you are continuing to stay healthy and safe out there!

RELAX AND CREATE - DISTRESS OXIDE INK SPATTERS

I heard it on good authority that the Amaryllis is a tropical flower, so don’t let the fact that it’s not Christmas stop you from using it all.year.round. (chinkle)

Distress Oxide Inks and I haven’t gotten along ever since they were first introduced; they’re messy. And, let’s face it, I’m a clean and simple kind of card maker. I don’t like to get my hands covered in ink and I don’t like getting it all over my work surface; I’m an oxymoron in the stamping world. After several attempts, I just didn’t find them appealing and tossed them into a drawer where they sat, gathering dust. I regretted the purchase and was glad I didn’t go “all in”.

But, recently I was working on a design and wanted to spatter some color mists (remember those?) onto it, and I got to wondering if I could get the effect I wanted by using the Oxide Inks. Snagged an acrylic block and pressed an Oxide pad against it, then flicked the color with a wet paint brush onto some scrap paper . . .

I didn’t even have to protect my desk; just tossed the card onto a paper plate and that was enough to keep the mess contained. The acrylic block wiped clean easily and I didn’t feel the need to put on any gloves. (GASP!!!)

I guess I’ll dust off the rest of those ink pads. (shrug)

I still don’t plan to go all in, but a few more colors may work their way into my stash . . . Oy. (wink)

Hope you are continuing to stay safe and healthy!

SUPPORTING SMALL BUSINESSES

Two amazing women and small business owners, Jamie Gracz and Ellen Hutson, are supporting each other in a very unique way during this extremely challenging time and I wanted to share. Now through April 24th, you can save 20% using code ELLENHUTSON at Avery Elle.

I’ve also got a quick share of one of my favoritest (so not a word, but should be) Avery Elle Stamp Sets:

I LOVE pho —and yes, it is one of my all time favorite meals and one of the best comfort foods evvvah! This set was illustrated by the talented Caryn Davies, of Glitter Me Silly. Caryn has a crazy good sense of humor—if you ever have the good fortune to meet her, she’ll make you laugh sooo soooooo hard!

All the images were stamped with Gina K’s Amalgam Jet Black Ink and colored in with Copic Markers. Used a mini score board to make the background—I wanted it to look like all the yummy goodies were raining down into the bowl. Mission accomplished! (fist pump)

This card is making me hungry—I could just swim in a good bowl of pho, I love it so muchly . . .

Hope this card sparked an idea or two for you!

Stay safe and stay healthy!

LUCKY LADY(BUG)

lucky-ladybug-001-1.JPG

Once I get on a roll with something, I seem to enjoy making various reiterations of it; this time, after making the DIY chipboard with Pale Rose Card Stock, I used Copic Markers to create the ombré effect. Just had to include this sweet ladybug from the Mondo Gerbera Daisy—just too perfect for this particular design.

The ladies got coated with Glossy Accents for dimension, after I used a colored pencil to lightly shade them in.

lucky-ladybug-001-2.JPG

I didn’t apply Glossy Accents to the “lucky” chipboard this time around because I really loved the matte finish in contrast to the glossy ladybugs. And those little black scallop rows* are such a sweet and delicate accent! I tossed the leftovers into a zip lock bag for any time I need them. Handy!!!

Have a fab day!

*ETA: The above sample was made in NOV 2019; since that time, the Scallops die as an individual has sold out so I have linked to the Pattern Dies Combo.
